Ice fishing was a method of obtaining fish for food during the winter months of the North and one of the few ways to survive when everything is covered in ice. Today it is a sport and a way of recreation for many who don’t depend on fish to live.
Gillnetting is one of the oldest methods of fishing. Almost every known civilization that had access to water, and fish in it, invented a variant of gillnet during its history in which fish would get caught.
